3 Marketing Campaigns That Will Make You Money In 2012 And Beyond

by Peter Garety

5 Pre-Sell PointsHave you thought about what kind of marketing to focus on in 2012 and what will make the most money for you in a long term?

Have you asked yourself these questions already? Questions like -

How actions that I am taking today will impact my results 3-6 months from now?

How I can serve people to become an authority in my market and how it will affect my business results?

What marketing forms I am going to use to achieve my goals this year?

Those are simple questions that require detailed answer, before you continue to work on your online business.

So, in this short blog post, I am going to reveal 3 most important forms of marketing for successful marketing campaigns in 2012.

#1 Make Your Marketing Campaigns Mobile

Now, I will not bore you with a bunch of statistics about mobile, because if you are using mobile phone yourself, you know that you want to check things online via phone. Well, at least I do.

Besides, if you look around you will see that people are constantly using their mobile phones – chatting, taking pictures, browsing through the Internet, socializing and so on. This clearly shows that mobile is where things are going.

Besides, here are two simple reason why YOU need to have a mobile optimized website for every site:

1.More traffic to your website

If your website is not mobile optimized, you are probably losing 7-10 percent of targeted traffic. Let me give you an example:

Let say you share your blog post or your video via social media sites – like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Somebody on their phone sees it and clicks that link – boom, if your website is not mobile optimized – you lose it.

Next, there is a lot of content syndication going on via different platforms. One of those is mobile apps. So, if your website is not mobile optimized, somebody who will click the RSS feed on their phone, will be taken to the standard website – again, you lose.

2. Higher search engine rankings for standard website

One of the key elements when it comes to results in search engines is bounce rate. If you have high bounce rate – over 50%, it will be very hard for you to get top spot rankings in Google.

Now, if you do not have a mobile optimized website, then all the traffic that is coming your way from mobile phones bounces back, and your website has high bounce rate.

So, if we go back to mobile campaigns, then I think one of the things you need to focus on is mobile apps.

This is a very hot topic right now. And you can hear quite a lot of success stories how people build million-dollar companies with simple mobile apps.

For the start, you can build the first app for your own website. All you need to do is to get approved in Apple Developer Program, and you can start to distribute it via iTunes store as well.

You may ask – what is my end result here? It is simple – you will have more traffic from mobile phone, more followers (exposure and authority) and more money via mobile app monetization.

#2 Your Number 1 Marketing Campaign – List Building

This is nothing new, but I want to make sure you hear it right now. You need to build a list. Period.

When it comes to list building most people just think about email marketing. But it is just one type of list.

How about targeted followers on Twitter, fans on your Facebook page or friends and subscribers to your YouTube channel. They all count. You just need to treat them differently as before.

Start to create content for all of these platforms on a regular basis (5-7 days a week) and start to interact with people (without sales pitches) and you will see massive change in your business in a very short time.

Also, I think that list building ALWAYS should be combined with your OWN product that you can sell. This is what will make you the most money right away. This is what will help you to build long-term business and grow it fast.

Finally, you need to make sure that all the content that you offer in exchange for email address (unless it is software), should be mobile ready. So, if you offer e-book or report, make sure people can read it on Kindle, Nook and other mobile devices.

#3 Marketing Campaign – Self-Publisher

Self-publishing is one of the easiest ways to build instant authority in your niche. Period.

Start with simple website where you can send people from your self-published books (the best would be to have a domain name with you first name and last name). Use the opt-in form or social media widgets to capture visitors and turn them to followers.

Next, just create books regarding the topic in your niche and publish it on Kindle. Offer some bonus to Kindle customers (for example, audio version of your book) to make a reason for people to visit your website.

Imagine, almost each person who will read your book will be interested to check out your website and to see what you are up to. So, basically, you get paid for getting traffic to your site. How does this sound?

Plan Your Marketing Campaigns

The purpose of this blog post was to trigger your mind to think how you can use these three marketing forms to grow your business in 2012.

You see, each of it consists of tens of different strategies. But, when you start to focus on one marketing form at a time, it will lead you to discover and master the method which is perfect fit for your business and will make you the most money in 2012.

But, if you continue to jump around like a chicken without a head and try to follow each shiny object that comes your way, then 2012 will be no different from any other years.

In fact, it will be even more difficult to experience a breakthrough and start to make consistent income online.

Start to build your marketing campaign of 2012 right away and make this your best year ever.

Hi John,

Thank you man! It is nice to hear your results. I know that the strategy is working and can bring long term results, just not everybody is willing to invest time to implement it. But, I am happy to see that it is working for you.

Deon January 6, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Hi Peter

Great Info. Here is my take on what you said.

I fully agree with your view on mobile marketing. Practically everybody has a smartphone or some other device that can access the internet and use it also for online shopping. I see this with my brick and mortar business every day. Definitely a must do for 2012 and onwards.

I am aware of “the money is in the list” but I have never and will never be a fan of listbuilding and email marketing. I know that I am probably dropping a lot of money in the water but I have been completely put off this type of marketing by the crap emails I get everyday, even from well known marketers selling all kinds of useless junk. I just cannot see myself doing more of the same.

Kindle is a very good concept and I know there are a lot of marketers making good money with it. A lot of people got burnt with crappy PLR stuff after the spate of Kindle WSO’s that came out last year, but that is a good thing. Definitely one to put on your list.

Thanks for a great write

Peter Garety January 6, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Hi Deon,

Thank you for stopping by. I am glad to see that you value the mobile marketing and kindle publishing as a great strategy for this year. I will do a lot in this area and will keep you updated about it.

Regarding list building, as I mentioned in my post, it is not just about email marketing – it is about overall following building and authority. People buy from people they know and trust. Simple concept.

Hi Peter,
A great post with actionable ideas, and the right ones. I will put all into effect this year, with the addition of a Youtube channel with a regular posting of videos.

Peter Garety January 6, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Hey Henry,

Great to hear that you are ready to put this into action. Also, regular video updates via YouTube will explode your business for sure.

Hi Peter,
very good post. Thanks for the great information and advice you offer.. I need to follow some of this advice as I am not proud to say but I’m an owner of SLB, BM & OM and haven’t had the time to go through any of them. Will make time for at least one this weekend.

Pete January 6, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Great blog, Peter. Is this new? I’d only been on your list in the past. (See? Lists work!)
“The money is in the list” is what I’ve been told.

Do you have any recommendations for how to build a list when selling affiliate products before we have our own product made? Seems as an affiliate all the clicks and emails go through to the seller.
If you have any screening criteria for selecting an affiliate where you get to offer the freebie, but the affiliate delivers the sale I’d love to hear about.

Peter Garety January 6, 2012 at 2:40 pm

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your comment. I do not recommend to build a list without your own product – any kind. Within short few days you will see changes on this blog and squeeze page, as you are going to see a completely different way how to build a list.

So, in my opinion, affiliate marketing without authority and your own product is almost dead.

Craig January 6, 2012 at 3:21 pm

Another informative post, thank you!
One question for you.
How do you make sure that the content you are offering
in exchange for customer name and emails is in a format
they can use?
I have heard this mentioned before, but no one really talks
about how to do this. Most kind of skim across the details
of why it is important.

Thanks again!

Peter Garety January 6, 2012 at 4:08 pm

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your comment and question.

What you actually do is create 3-4 versions of your e-book or report, so that they can download it on whatever device they are.

Winst January 6, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Thanks Peter that was very reassuring.I can keep to my 2012 golds knowing that I am moving on the right track and hopefully at the right pace, Thanks to you.Working on my mobile site now and will be moving on to my next in list as soon as I am done thanks again

Jayson de Rosner January 6, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Hi Pete

I started my first blog about 6 months ago. I must say that it is an uphill “traffic” battle. One of the first things I came across was your traffic report and have followed it faithfully. The results have been good.

I have been “swimming” (just treading water actually) around for a while; trying to learn and to get things up and running. It seems to me that there is no easy fix. It is something that you have to persevere at. To spend time at.

Anyhow, thanks for a good post.

I will be concentrating on building a list for now. I have an “e-brochure” that I aim to use as “bait”. All part of the learning process.

Thanks Man

Hi Peter

I like the suggestion about self publishing. Since I am planning to publish on Kindle this year anyway, that will be just down my alley. I have a few health related sites that can benefit from your suggestion.

Michael Brown January 7, 2012 at 1:10 am

Thanks for the article, yes indeed it is time to be formulating new plans. I am working on that in a serious way. I have three questions:
1. re. mobile for wordpress blogs is there a plugin that you would recommend that optimizes your site?
2. as to applications for mobile for the non-techie should we be looking for a software guru to build an app for Iphone/Droid? How does that work?
3. I am frustrated with the mechanics of building a “squeeze page” in WP doing the traditional one page, offer with no escape voids the domain for any other uses, or you go the “pop-up”/side-bar route. I personally despise pop-ups, but the side-bar typically gets ignored. I will be watching with interest to see what you do in the coming weeks on this blog.

Peter Garety January 7, 2012 at 4:06 am

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your comment. Regarding your questions –

1. Yes, I recommend WPMobilePro theme. I use it myself and I can tell, it is worth every penny of it.

2. You can go to AppMakr.com and you can build an app for free. The other thing is that you need to get approval in Apple Developer Program, which is $99 one-time fee. This will allow you to submit your app to iTunes.

3. I am using Optimize Press, so it is very easy for me regarding to squeeze pages. If you are not using it, then indeed, opt-in pop-up can be solution. Another thing would be Subscribers Magnet plugin.

I hope this helps.

I’ll be working to build my list and will be adding mobile marketing to my blogs.

Carin January 8, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Hi Peter, I am a member of SLB and BM, I have an SEO question, I have seen some plugins which generate pages of keyword rich content for a blog to rank, but it is all repetitive and cannot be shown to users. If these pages are generated in the blog, but are not linked in a menu, will they still get indexed and do you feel this could have value, (its grey hat really). Thanks! Carin

What’s up, Peter!

Thanks for sharing your 2012 insights, my friend.

Self-publishing is my #1 marketing campaign for 2012…
Glad to see it’s high on your list as well! :)

Looking forward to hanging you at the Warriors’ Live Event

Hey Bolaji,

Yeah, publishing along with Mobile Apps is where the trend is going. This is what we should do.

Looking forward to meeting you my friend in WF event.

It is strange how lots of people were bemoaning the death of ebooks last year and that information products would be of no use to anyone. Now the momentum is gathering to not only produce Kindle books but any type of publishing material for all new devices populating cyberspace.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, however you look at it, the whole world is jumping onto the band wagon of being a Kindle publisher. It is going to be an extremely hot and heated market! Only the best will survive.

Akil February 3, 2012 at 4:53 am

Interesting post and this is something I am focusing on myself as I need to build a list of followers that are interested and not just looking for freebies.

Three areas I can focus on so thanks for the tips

sriram rajan March 14, 2012 at 6:38 pm

As always Peter , All we have to do is just follow what you are doing , and of course apply it and we will all be right there at the top with many of our friends who have posted here and following you elsewhere:-)
